Learn More about Vinyl Flooring
Choosing, buying and installing a brand-new flooring takes time, consideration, planning and of course, money. That’s why it’s so important to step into the process with a good understanding of what it is you are looking for and a basic knowledge of the different flooring types to help you make the right choice.
Vinyl flooring is a brilliant option for many different spaces. This fantastic flooring material is durable, reliable, practical and very beautiful to look at. But does this mean it’s the perfect fit for your home? Whether you’re completely new to the world of flooring or simply looking for a little extra inspiration and info, we’ve compiled a handy guidance section below that should hopefully answer any questions you may have as you browse the range.
What is Vinyl Flooring?
Let’s start with the basics. What exactly is vinyl flooring? How is it made? And what is it made of?
Whilst vinyl plank flooring looks incredibly similar to real wood, this innovative flooring solution is actually manufactured using completely man-made material! The organic look is achieved through a clever printing process in which the grain and characteristics of natural wood are closely mimicked – pretty cool right?
Traditional vinyl plank flooring is made using synthetic material which is formed by mixing and melting PVC with pigments, plasticizers, UV stabilizers, fungicides and calcium carbonate. The flooring construction consists of multiple layers including a backing layer, vinyl core, decorative printed image and then a wear layer to prevent damage and fading.
Benefits of Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl flooring offers a range of fantastic benefits and advantages for your home. From its exceptional durability and wear resistance to its gorgeous versatility and aesthetics, there’s a multitude of reasons why vinyl may be your perfect choice.
Stylish Aesthetics
Of course, one of the primary advantages of vinyl is the smart and natural-looking finish it creates. Thanks to its synthetic construction, vinyl can be produced in a huge variety of colours, styles and designs, giving you the freedom to implement a touch of personality whilst still creating a beautifully natural look.
Amazing Durability
Ultra-hardwearing and resilient, vinyl plank flooring can handle pretty much anything and anything that a hectic home can throw at it. The rigid core provides reliable sturdiness in high-traffic areas whilst a durable wear layer offers long-term protection against scratches, spills and all manners of mess. Vinyl is also a highly waterproof material so is perfect for moisture and splash-prone areas.
Highly Versatile
Safely installable in virtually any part of the home, vinyl plank flooring is incredibly versatile and accommodating in its uses with a fantastic selection of styles to suit every room design.
DIY-Friendly
Vinyl flooring has come a long way since its first line of production and with the use of click-lock and tongue-and-groove systems, the laying process is quicker and easier than ever! Perfect for any crafter DIYer with a bit of time, know-how and the right set of basic tools.
Comfort
Thanks to its enhanced thickness and high-quality construction, our vinyl flooring truly does provide a treat for the feet. Without compromising toughness or resilience, this brilliant flooring material offers a softer and more comfortable underfoot base so you can stand, sit, walk, dance and play in enhanced comfort.
Easy to Clean
Cleaning your floor can be a pain, especially if you have a lot of floor space to cover. Thankfully, vinyl flooring is incredibly easy to clean and requires only simple mopping and sweeping to maintain a fresh and spotless finish. This low-maintenance flooring material also won’t need regular sanding, re-sealing or waxing so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your beautiful new floor stress-free.
Where Can I Use Vinyl Flooring?
Thanks to its highly resilient properties, vinyl flooring can be installed virtually anywhere you can think of in the home. Whilst the sturdy and stylish finish would look stunning in a living room, bedroom, dining room, playroom or hallway, vinyl is also ideal for those spaces where other organic flooring materials just aren’t suitable. This includes the kitchen, bathroom, utility room, conservatory or ensuite – all areas where moisture, humidity, splashes and spills would otherwise damage natural wood, but not vinyl!
Just a tip, we always recommend checking against the manufacturer’s guidance before buying and fitting just to make sure your choice of flooring is suitable for where you want to install it.
